Ways to Improve Your Appearance without Makeup

As soon as I thought about starting a no makeup challenge, I started thinking about ways to improve my appearance without putting anything on my face. I was afraid I'd look dreadful and frighten people without my usual makeup. Those fears turned out to be unsubstantiated. Luckily, most of what you can do to approve your face without makeup is good for you in other ways, too. 

Exercise - The first thing that came to mind was exercise. Exercise gets your blood flowing, bringing color to the skin and brightening the whites of the eyes. Sometimes, it's too much color, such as after exercising outdoors on a hot day, but usually it's a good thing.

Eating right really can make a difference. I've noticed I have better skin color and texture since I started drinking a lot of smoothies. Flood your diet with vegetables and fruits while minimizing sugar and salt, and your skin will thank you. Drink plenty of water, too. 

Find a Natural Way - As I mentioned before, my biggest concern in going without makeup was having dark circles under my eyes. The Beauty Bean offers 5 Ways to Conceal Under-Eye Circles, Without Makeup, one of which is exercising. Another is a caffeinated under-eye cream, which I don't have, but it sounds pretty useful. Apparently that's the idea behind using tea bags, too. 

Hair - I fixed my hair more often this week than I usually do. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to my hair. You'd think by the way I avoid it that blow-drying was extremely difficult and took hours.. I always keep my hair long enough to pull back and I go a little crazy when I can't do that. I didn't plan it, but I got my hair cut and colored on the first day of the challenge, so that helped, too.

Smiling helps. I'm a smiley person and I have to warn you - people think you're nuts if you smile too often. Still, it's a good thing to do and it makes you look better. 

Skincare - Taking good care of your skin can help, too. Generally, not wearing makeup is better for your skin. Not sleeping with it on is also good, and something I'm bad about doing. Since the temperature is still cool here, I found myself not washing my face as much, because it didn't feel dirty or oily most of the time. 

Confidence - The biggest discovery for me was that once I got used to not wearing makeup, my confidence level increased. Feeling comfortable with how you look is probably the best thing you can do for your appearance.
