You can't tell from the fridge, but I easily made it a week eating from the house. I did buy a bag of popcorn and a bag of taffy Saturday night (snack attack, I guess!), but other than that, I ate what was here. Oh, and I bought a bag of tortilla wraps when we ran out. That's it. And a couple of things came into the house that I didn't buy - a quinoa salad and two bags of hamburger buns from a small get-together we hosted. On the other hand, we fed our guests all things we already had, so no shopping required on our part.
As you can see, there's still plenty of food here. I noticed that we need ground cinnamon, and soon we'll need tortillas again, because I bought a small package. But overall, I don't think we need too much.
It was nice to take a break from shopping, both for me personally (I hate shopping) and for the kitchen. It's too easy to buy more than we need. If I'm not buying at all, I can't do that. For example, we have four jars of salsa right now, and that's after serving salsa at two social events. Something's the matter with me - and not shopping works pretty well to fix it.
I'd say this was a successful challenge, and one I learned from. My plan is to keep going with it, buying only perishable items for which we have no substitute. I've tried that before and failed, so I'm going to try extra-hard to make it work this time.
