20,000 Steps: Day 1

Monday is usually my lowest step day. My responsibilities at work on Mondays (which fall in the middle of my work week) don't have me moving around much, I'm tired from closing the night before, and I have to go to bed early so I can be in early the next day. I tend to not do much on Mondays.

Yesterday, however, I did a lot! I took Hazel on her regular dog-walk before I went to work, so I had about 4,000 steps when I got there. By the time I got back home, I was up to 11,000. That may seem like a lot (hey, I was over halfway!), but in order to get to 20,000, I needed a four-and-a-half-mile walk. 

And I did it! Hazel was rather worn out, but I didn't mind it too much. And I came home to find Eric trying to get to 20,000 steps inside the house (he got most of the way there at work and only needed another 1500 or so). 

All in all, it wasn't bad. Walking after work wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. There were a lot more people on the trail than I usually see. I saw a large (maybe 30?) group of serious runners, several bicyclists, and other dog-walkers. I'm usually on the trail near my house in the middle of the day and there aren't many people out there then. After work is a whole different story. 

I thought about walking on my lunch break today, because it's dark out and I can't walk before work, but I have a business lunch scheduled. So whatever I don't get at work today, I'll be walking for this afternoon. I'm kind of looking forward to it, to tell you the truth.

And with 91,712 steps for the past 7 days, I'm third on the Fitbit leaderboard for the week, right behind two friends who are often at the top. Eric is right behind me in fourth place, with 90,000 miles.
