I sold two of the four things I listed on Ebay last week, for a total of $40. Not a fortune, but for things we were just going to donate, not too bad. I also sold three books on Amazon. I can understand why so many people don't try to sell their things. Between listing, communicating with potential buyers, packaging and shipping, it takes a lot of time.
We got rides from friends and family to and from the beer festival we went to Friday night, so we didn't have to pay for cabs.
I bought a $200 Petsmart gift card for $170. I go through Gift Card Granny to look for secondhand gift cards. You can sort by the amount on the cards and the discount. I've been doing this for a while now, with Petsmart, Home Depot, Lowe's and any other large chain where we regularly spend money. According to my records, we benefited from $255 in "extra" money over the last year. I haven't had any problems with bad gift cards yet, but I have read about that happening to other people.
I transferred points from one of our Chase cards to IHG to help pay for a hotel stay in Memphis on our upcoming vacation. We'll be getting a $244/night room for $70/night (plus 15,000 points/night). And we get to stay on Beale Street!
Speaking of vacation, we worked on a budget. It's still going to be expensive, but at least we have a better idea what we're in for.
The day after the beer festival, we ordered Chinese carryout. Oh, the power of a hangover! It can make you give up all your good habits.
