Day two is your dishwasher and small appliances, such as the toaster. We don't have a dishwasher, so I did the toaster and the blender.
We got our toaster years ago from a friend who moved to Nashville (thanks, Jason!). I can't remember if we didn't have one or didn't like ours, but we've been using this one ever since. I don't believe I've ever really cleaned it. I may not have even wiped it off. Also, it still has a sticker describing on of the features. I hate when stickers are left on; I'm surprised that one lasted so long.
It's becoming apparent that I have an amazing tolerance for dirt. Either that, or I just can't see it most of the time.
Before and after of the toaster:
I followed these directions to clean the toaster. It turns out ours doesn't have a crumb tray, so I just shook it upside down to get the crumbs out. Then I detailed it with kitchen cleaner, a toothbrush, a scrub sponge and a rag. I'm pretty pleased with the results.
Next I tackled the blender. I bought this blender shortly after I got out of college, which means it's been around for close to 20 years. I have nothing bad to say about it. It's held up very well. One of the feet is broken, but the other three are enough to keep it stable. It blends as well today as it did when I bought it.
I clean the blender more often than the toaster, that's for sure, but I don't completely clean it every time I use it, like I should. Blending is messy business. Stuff gets everywhere.
Blender before and after:
I have to go to work or I'd look for other small appliances to clean. If you haven't cleaned yours in a while, it's a pretty good return on time and effort.
